Here at dbzf a lot of people understand that America is in the dumps, the thing they truly don't understand is why. Well here is the topic for it... As a note, try to make posts worth reading, and avoid posts such as, "Yea America is in the dumps, they better elect _______ as president".... In 2007 & 2008 our economy shot downward. The basis to almost all of America's problem all lead to the fact that we're in debt like no other time. Most probably think that, that's all in the past, but it's not at all. The reason we're still afloat right now financially is because America is the only country that is able to simply print more money for federal costs. The reason we can do this is because the USD (United States Dollar) is the core of money everywhere. This is known as the World's Reserve Currency. However, that "core" is about to be no more. The reason why is because the more loans America takes out, the more debt we have. We solve this by simply printing more money, however the more money we print the less value the USD has. In most places in the world local businesses and chains accept the nations currency as well as the USD, however the reason is because the USD used to be stronger than any other currency. The thing that's scary for Americans is that other countries are talking about switching the World's Reserve Currency to something different like Chinese or Japanese Currency. If this happens (which logically speaking it should within the next 5 years) then USD wouldn't be good anywhere besides America, and when this happens the surplus of printed money (even though it's not all in America) will cause prices here to literally skyrocket to 3-4 times as much. The same thing happened over 50 years ago to Britan, and their economy shot. Hospitals wouldn't admit everyone, businesses could only use certain resources for so many things, etc. The point is their money shot, and so did their reign as the World's Greatest "Superpower", which since America at that point became a debtor to them we took on their role as that superpower, however history is repeating itself and soon enough America will lose their last piece of the puzzle in holding the World's Reserve Currency, and when this happens a Depression like America has never seen will happen and another country will prosper essentially because their currency will be the global one. States are already trying to take action to reserve money. California is releasing 5% of their prison population to lower costs to the state, some states are making things like yard-sales and pawn shops start taxing to earn more money, some are trying to legalize marijuana. NBC released an article 3 days ago stating that 43% of Americans are considered broke. 43% of people spend more money than they make annually and increased the looming debt everywhere. In the 1930's is when America hit it's biggest depression and right before it happened the same thing that is happening now occurred. We had 2 bad years followed by 2 decent ones, which was followed by 2 moderate years and then it just got horrible. The reason I'm posting this is simply to make people aware, especially Americans. Most don't understand what's going on, so I hope this helps a little bit. |

Well what we need to do is figure out a way to cut down on the deficit. I think the only real politician running for president who has offered a plan to cut a large chunk out of the deficit is Ron Paul. From what I remember it's 1 trillion in the first year however I don't think the type of cuts he has planned will sit well with a lot of people. |

Even if Ron Paul "has a plan," he won't win. I seriously doubt that the Republican candidate, whoever he is, will beat out Obama. The odds are stacked against it. And when Obama is reelected, things are just going to steadily get worse. All we can do is cast our vote and hope things get better. I'm still trying to look at things positively, but it's hard. |

Have you guys in America felt this much or not? I mean, has it impacted your lives or is it more about what it could do later on? Not living there, it's hard to get an idea of how bad it is. |

I'm not sure if it's affected me, because I hardly pay attention haha. I've noticed gas went up to $3.50 or so in my area, and then steadily went down. Now it ranges from $3.05 to $3.19. Does that count? |

Not sure if you saw but NBC made an article saying 43% of Americans are broke. I think that answers your question. |

You realise that compared to here the price of petroleum in America is very cheap? I'm not sure if I read the numbers right but it looks like the average is about £13 a litre here. Compare that to your measily $3.19 lol. Doesn't everyone hate the current congress over there? I heard they aren't popular. |

^ You sure about 13 pound a litre? That'd be very expensive. In Australia it's about $1.40 a litre (with our dollar pretty much on parity with the US). I think you mean 1.30 a litre. $3.19 is a lot though. I did miss the 43% thing as well. I'm shocked, I didn't realize it was that bad. |

The only reason for this is because the world's reserve currency is in USD. When that changes oil prices will skyrocket unbelievably. |

Obama's approval rating is less than 50% now, isn't it? I think if Ron Paul or whoever (I don't pay attention to presidential debate like I should) wants to win, they'd have a good chance if they upped their approval rating more. I just want Obama gone, personally. We really do need to figure something out. Are any "celebrities" paying attention to this stuff? |
